About Our Products
We produce facsimili reproductions of old and rare, out of copyright, books relating to family history or genealogy, on CD-ROM.
The image on the right shows the Visitations of Cornwall by Lieut-Col J.L. Vivian published in 1887.
We Scan all of our products at a high resolution of at least 300dpi, generally in black & white but occasionally in greyscale or colour depending on either the quality or type of the original.
All pages are scanned into Adobe Photoshop, enhanced where necessary, before writing to a pdf file. The pages are then imported into Adobe Acrobat where the complete publication is then fully bookmarked and checked against the original. Often you may find blank pages in the files - these are intentional as they were blank in the original book, and have been left in to preserve page numbering. All of our products are fully printable.
Some suppliers claim their products to be fully searchable - we don't. We expect the files to be browsed in exactly the same manner as a normal book. The main reason for this is that we believe if you are going to the extent of fully OCRing a publication to be searchable, then you might as well complete the job and republish the book in textual form, including the original layout. OCR packages are notoriously innacurate and occasionally get the recognition wrong. When this happens in a searchable document it is obviously of no use to the user.
We stand by the quality of our products and every item in our catalogue is available on this web site, most with a sample pdf file extracted from the full version. Therefore, you can view the quality of the product before you buy - you may even be lucky in seeing the page you wanted for free!
We are adding new items on an almost daily basis, so please check back regularly.
